Chances are you have heard the term credit score. You have probably also heard that you should check your score on a regular basis. This is good advice that sadly many credit card owners simply ignore. Considering that this little number can affect everything in your life from getting the house that you want, to going to school or even taking your dream vacation. Your credit card debt can drastically alter this number. What is on your credit card history?

The record will contain general information about you including your name, place of residence and your date of birth. It will also include your social insurance number, and your place of employment. Additionally there will be a record of when it was last updated.

Your personal bank account information will also be on your record. It will show how many accounts you have, which accounts you have open, which ones you may have closed and when. It will also list the balance of your accounts.


All of your credit cards will of course be listed and any information related to them. This information will include things like, what your limit is, what your balance is, and when you got the card. It will also show a two year history and in some cases a six year history of all the payments that you have made. It will show if you were late with payments, and by how much. The terms and minimum payment will also be listed.

If you have any other loans or lines of credit they will be on your report. They will include the same kind of information that is in the credit card section.

There is a section on the report that is used to list any public financial history about you. Information in this area might be any court judgments that have been filed against you, alimony, or child support payments, as well as, any bankruptcy information. It will also show if you have ever been successfully sued or had any wages garnished.

There is another section which list inquiries. The good thing about a credit score is that nobody has the right to view this information without your knowledge. The companies that keep these records are required to receive permission from you before allowing anyone to see your files. If you do give permission, this information is recorded.


There is an area on the report that are used to list any creditor contacts. And there is another section that list any comments from you. This could be any information that you gave the company to explain a situation.

With all this information on file it is very important that it be accurate. It is up to you to verify that all the information contained in this file is correct and up to date. This is especially important in regards to bankruptcy and delinquencies because some of this information should be removed from your records after a certain period of time. Don't put off checking your score, it can have devastating effects on your life if the information is incorrect, out of date or if you have been the victim of identity theft or fraud.
